Obedience

Eric Schlosser has talked about obedience in “Fast Food Nation” (page 75). Obedience is when somebody obeys the rules and does what he or she was told to do. In addition, obedient is dutifully complying with the commands, orders, or instructions of one in authority. For example of obedience that we can easily relate to are parents instructing their children as to what they should do. When parents instruct their children, they are not happy when they only obey a portion of their commands. They want their children to obey all that they tell them. If a parent told his child to focus on his study, not to out to roam with his or her friends like gypsy, and if child went out without following his or her parent’s instruction that is not an obedience. Obedience is the act or practice of being obedient.

  1. This is a good definition of obedience, but it's not clear how and where you found in Schlosser. How does your parenting example relate to his? Also, read you second sentence out loud. Does it make sense?
